4.20.11 - Ossyan, Thyra, Unbound, and new Theme Forces!

Yesterday and today brought some pretty exciting news for Warmachine.  The model for the new Protectorate warcaster, Thyra, Flame of Sorrow, was announced, as well as the model for Lord Arcanist Ossyan for the Retribution.  Privateer Insider announced a new large-scale rule set for Warmachine, called Unbound.  Finally, the cover for No Quarter #36 was announce on No Quarter's Facebook page.

I think of all of the Wrath warcasters, I am most interested in Ossyan, with Thyra being a close second.  That might be because I play Retribution, but come on, "The fundamental laws of reality twist and shatter beneath the will of Ossyan"?  Sweet!

Oh what I wouldn't give to get Temporal Barrier or Temporal Acceleration on this guy.  He will probably have some way to help out dice, whether it is Manifest Destiny, Signs and Portents, Seas of Fate, Future Sight, or some new ability.  If he does, he'll go straight to top tier in my opinion.

And I love his Megaman arm.

Now this warcaster is really exciting as well.  She will probably have either Elite Cadre [Daughters] or Desperate Pace.  It seems like she will be a Morghoul type in your face warcaster.  Possibly FOC 5, but with potent spells, I think she'll support Daughters and maybe other infantry.  I'm thinking she'll have Side Step, Perfect Balance, Anatomical Precision, and hopefully DEF 17.  I don't think it would break precedence.  Gun Mages are DEF 15 and both Caines are DEF 17.  Daughters are DEF 15 so why not?

By the way, what a great pose.

On the cover of NQ #36, there are three headlines.  Unbound, new Theme Forces, and the final Wrath previews.

In today's Privateer Insider, Jason Soles announced Unbound, which is a ruleset for large-scale Warmachine battles.  This ruleset is designed for 150+ points with three or more warcasters.  The biggest difference coming to Unbound is how turns and rounds work.  In a single round, each player will take turns activating portions of their armies.  Similar to GW's Lord of the Rings game, players roll for initiative to see who gets to activate first.  However, to prevent two units/sections for going two times in a row, The units that activated last in the previous round may not activate first in the current round.

Jason included his belief that this is not for everyone, nor is it intended for competitive play.  I know some players who just love playing huge games, and this will probably be their thing.  I, for one, will definitely give Unbound a try when it comes out at the end of next month.

Finally, on the cover we see that both Legion of Everblight and Mercenaries are on the chopping block for getting new Theme Forces.  Who's gonna get them?  Beats me.

Thanks for reading everyone!
